The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association has been awarded the first ever “Honorary Nittany Lion Mascot” award, presented at the annual Penn State Cheerleading banquet, held Sunday April 22nd at the Nittany Lion Inn. This award, inspired by Penn State University President Graham Spanier, represents the drive toward success and the love of Penn State, everything the Nittany Lion stands for.

Dave Johnson, outgoing Nittany Lion mascot, presented the chapter with this award saying, “The Greater Susquehanna Valley Alumni chapter has been a tremendous support to many students and members of the cheerleading teams at Penn State. The membership that makes up this chapter bleed Blue and White and are strong members of the Penn State family.”

Recognized for their annual pig roast, the chapter signature event, attended by the entire cheerleading squad, the Greater Susquehanna Valley chapter has welcomed the cheerleading squad with open arms for many years. Johnson concluded his presentation with the following message, “The tradition of attending the annual pig roast has so much honor because of the way the chapter not only supports the cheerleaders, but also supports many future and current Penn State students from their community."

This prestigious award is the third national recognition bestowed on the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chapter by the Penn State Alumni Association. Last November, the chapter was awarded the Penn State Alumni Association national award for Networking and Fellowship as well as attaining the prestigious Group of Distinction status again this year.
